"Audley will be the top man by May 2005" - Bunce.

Post by lirva33 »

When I heard Bunce say this, I was a little surprised. Not because he said it, but because he sounded sooooo sure.

I think Audley can & WILL beat The domestic heavy's. I certainly give him a more than a 50/50 chance with them. I know that's not world class, but I reckon Audley is above domestic level.

By May 2005, Tyson and lewis will probably be retired. Vitali will probably hold a belt (WBC) & I think Vitali will rematch Byrd & take the IBF. That leaves The WBA (Ruiz/Jones title at the moment). I can't see Audley beating either Klitchsko so if Bunce is right he'll probably face a Ruiz/Rahman/Oquendo type fighter for the WBA belt. But to be the "top man" he'll have to beat Klitchsko... not going to happen.

So, my question to you is, can you see Audley as the WBA champion by May 2005? And can you see him beating Vitali Klitchsko? Or is Bunce talking crap?

Bunce is doing his 'getting over excited about a british fighter' routine.

he also boasted about how he has said it all along, as if people were now jumping on the bandwagon.

The more he reminds us that he has believed in Audley all along, the more humliating it will be once he is proved wrong.

I seem to be picking on Bunce quite a lot today, but I have the Harrison vs Middleton fight on tape (pro debut) Bunce said Harrison would go to European level, which was my call. Is this top man?

Perhaps he meant domestic top man by may 2005, thats about the rate he's progressing.

Woodhall was closest with his "lesser world title" prediction. Although his "who's going to care?" comment about the validity of such a title made me cringe a bit.

Does Richie really think Audley could get away with holding a WBF belt, not being rated in the top 10 but still claiming to be THE champ? If there's one division where you can't fool the public it's the heavyweights.

I think that bunce is doing the Audley hype job very well.

Im still not convinced that at his advanced age, he will be able to dominate the domestic scene, let only the world one.

But in todays pathetic heavyweight division, who knows?

Just seemed a blatant attempt to suck up to his bosses at the BBC and their poster boy Audley.
Just note a few months back when he was writing for Box Monthly (and not employed by the Beeb) Bunce was attacking Audley every month, saying how he was going nowhere fast, fat, overrated, West London "Massive" etc...

Bunce now finds himself in a very awkward postion: he has to be "friends" with Harrison now.
His bosses at the BBC would love him to do a few interviews with Harrison,
which isn't happening, due to AH remembering the no-stop slagging Bunce was dishing out in BM.
Steve's comment "I was waiting outside the door to Audley's gym and they wouldn't let me in!" was revealing.

So I reckon his new line in flattering Audley is just an attempt to get back in his good books and stay firmly on the BBC bandwagon.

That's his way. He always come accross as completely sure of stuff even when he hasn't really got a clue.

I have to laugh when I see you lot WAITING for Bunce to say something you can all leap on!!!

Would you lot have preferred it if he'd said "Audley will....................then again, he might not!!!" I mean, that is brilliant Telly, that.

I continue to be suspiscious of the motivation I am afraid.

Steve Bunce is the most interesting, visible and enthusiastic member of the UK Boxing press - and I am left wondering "what kind of ass-hole must he be to have offended ALL other Boxing Journo's?"

I don't think he can have offended all of them - so whats the deal?

Let's get it right.... we're no clearer on how good Harrison's gonna be as a pro now than we were a couple of years ago. Fact! Until he gets in with a decent fighter we're gonna remain none the wiser.

good point!!!! right on the mark!!

Fraudley should go for a lesser world title right now as a measure of his own capability, as later on he may miss his chance when a new crop of hot prospects will emerge from both sides of the pond!

Yeah Woodhall's comment "it doesn't matter what title he fights for.." was a bit disappointing.

Audley v Francis for the WBU heavyweight title anyone?

the thing is: Audley has been wobbled by the very lowest possible quality of op, once that I saw by one of the cruisers he fought and I think Ratkovic did too.
Wehn he fights someone with a respectable punch who gets in range and lands he's going down.

To be honest I have really seen AH wobbled too badly, but i have'nt seen all his fights either. Did Ellis stun him maybe?
At least we haven't seen him get hit, twirl round, and fall flat on the canvas - so far :o

And I don't think he was ever badlly knocked out as an amateur was he? So I'm still hoping his chin is good...

I remember a preview Bunce did in Audley's amateur days in The Times. I think it was before the big man's first fight in the 1998 European championships. It went along the lines of "Audley will do his usual trick of posing, holding and basically doing nothing en route to a disappointing points defeat."
I believe Audley fell out with him over that (maybe because he did lose a disappointing fight on points to Serguei Lyahovich).

Bennie, didn't Bunce one time predict Audley would lose to an "overweight Turk"? I'm sure he did, and of course he went and lost to Samil Sam.

Must have gone down like a pork chop at a bar mitzvah. :P

Bunce (and the majority of the BBC) have found it hard to say a good word about Audley in the 2 odd years he has been pro, so to see Bunce turn full circle on Saturday was amazing. I think he must have had a brief from his bosses
(Boss) "Right Buncey, Danny has fcuked off, so BIG UP Audley as you can't be seen to be constantly slating our star attraction"
(Buncey) "OK   "

Audley will be Top Man by 2005

Post by knockout artist »

I'm not sure what SB meant when he said this.

Did he mean that Audley would get KO'd in 2004 and be working at Top Man in 2005?

He can gladly take me to court.

Just because you never get caught dosen't mean you aint a criminal!

I don't think its a secret that he used to promote underground boxing which was ILLEGAL, therefore he was partaking in criminal activities, therefore he was a FORMER CRIMINAL!

Anyway, I'll USE TERRY MARSH as my DEFENCE WITNESS!

Unfortunately Mesi suffers from an inverse Racism in boxing. White Boxing reporters and fans jump on a white boxer if he has a bad performance and write him of as a bum!

I BELEIVE IN BABY JOE MESI 1OO%

MESI WILL BE WBC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION IN 2004

Nasty, I am glad you have seen the error of your ways, it takes a big man to admit that he was totally wrong about our Audley.

Who would you support in an Audley Vs Mesi contest?

Joe Mesi. Hey, its an italian thing

I like Audley alot

He's an intelligent guy and good for boxing's imagine

Compared to guys like Danny Williams, Audley is a genuine and honest guy.

I hope Audley becomes British champion very soon, than European and world champion in 2005
