Setanta TV - You will not be able to resist it
Ricky Hatton fights Jose Castillo in June on Setanta, some of you claim you will not pay to watch it. If you are a boxing fan you will not be able to resist the temptation of getting the credit or debit card out to pay for the fight.

Setanta will not be going into paying for Ricky Hatton without having a marketting stratedgy. The advertising budget will be impressive. You have to remember they are plugging Hatton as well as the early part of the new football season. Hatton is still the most popular fighter in this country. The media will love this fight with Castillo so it will get lots of coverage in the papers.
I also have to add Hatton and Castillo is a proper fight, can Calzaghe say he has been in one?
Setanta have made a very clever move indeed.

The interest and anticipation will sell this fight. Nothing at all to do with Setanta getting the rights; they have already done well. As to who buys into it, FF has already said the diehard fan but I think there will also be a few more. I hope the fight lives up to the billing. I personally think it will. Either ways it will sell and sell very well IMO.

I think PPV is all wrong because many of us pay enough for TV without having to pay more for special events - Having said that I will have it basically because I can afford it and want to see it, therefore its daft to deny myself the pleasure simply because I dont believe in PPV - Another way to look at it is its cheaper than a night out so what the hell pay up and enjoy.

Hatton will win over a weight drained Castillo, so I'm buying the Mexican stereotype thinking they all fight.
Why did Hatton reject Sky's offer? Was It because they refused to stick him on PPV? Why kill his popularity In the uk and worse by going on an Irish channel thats not that popular of a channel?

There is no point spending the advertising budget now is there, the majority of people will not make up their minds until the last couple of weeks probably leave it until the final week when all the hype is in the papers and on the news. Then watch all of you dig deep into those pockets or bounce them cards, you know you will do it, you are boxing fans.

I get it, it's going to be reminiscent of the advertising Hopkins / Eastman got from Setanta, or even Jones / Ruiz.Scooby Doo wrote:You are not getting it. Setanta if they are in their right minds will go effing ballistic on advertising thats in the media and also rubbing salt in the wounds of sky by advertising on their channels as well. trust me the advertising on this fight is going to go nuts.

Everybody welcome Setanta's representative on Boxrec,: Scooby Do!!
A man to be trusted for a fair and even handed account of the Hatton/Setanta situation, and strictly no spin whatsoever!
This fight like Hopkins/Eastman is buried on Setanta and only hardcores like us know anything about it. Im sat here surrounded by casual sports fans who watch footy, cricket, rugby, and any big fight that is presented to them. Unsurprisingly, they have never heard of Setanta, and wouldnt pay any amount of money to watch Hatton fight a man they never heard of.

Lacy (IBF) , Brewer (IBF), Woodhall (WBC), Mitchell (WBA) , Eubank (WBO), Reid (WBC) = 6
err......Tszyu (IBF), Maussa (WBA), Collazo (WBA), Phillips (IBF) Urango (IBF), Pendleton (IBF) = 6

Yes, you're right but you get my point. Too easy to slag Calzaghe when it suits. Lacy was dominated but at the time was tipped by many to beat Calzaghe. When Calzaghe school's him, suddenly it's a shit fight. Tszyu, was inactive, rusty and had dodgy knees. He was paid an additional big fee so not to have a warm up and Hatton becomes a legend for beating him, just.
If you look at the quality of most of Hatton's (Self-picked) opposition it is far poorer than Calzaghe's.
On talent alone, forgetting weight for the minute, only a fool would tip Hatton over Calzaghe.

I see what you're saying but surely there has to be a distinction made in the fact that Zoo, Maussa, Collazo and Urango actually held the belts when Hatton fought them. Of the opponents that you list only Lacy actually held the belt when Joe fought him. Also the Hatton opponents you list are all from the past four years and mostly from the last two, Joe has taken nine years to get through the guys you list.boxingchat wrote: Lacy (IBF) , Brewer (IBF), Woodhall (WBC), Mitchell (WBA) , Eubank (WBO), Reid (WBC) = 6

Either way belts aren't nessessarily the best way to judge the importance of a fight i.e. Castillo much more meaningful fight than Urango even though one of the major titles is not on the line. I do however agree with you that Hatton's self picked opponents have not been the best up till now.
