BoxRec Boxing Hall of Fame, Round 3 ballots - CLOSED

Post by kidlefty »

This officially opens balloting for Round 3 of the BoxRec Boxing Hall of Fame. Submit your ballots here. Voting will be open until May 25.

Candidate Eligibility
Any fighter that has been retired for at least ten years is eligible. For example, in 2006, we can elect anyone who's last fight occured in 1995 or before. Use their record on the BoxRec database to confirm the date of their last fight.

Assembling a Ballot
Voters are instructed to consider all eligible candidates for each ballot. Fighters should be considered based on their performance and accomplishments in the ring.

Do not rank the fighters in order, please just list them alphabetically. No one gets any extra points for being ranked higher than another, we are simply counting how many total ballots each fighter is named on.

Voters should list the 25 fighters most deserving of election. If a voter feels there are fewer than 25 candidates deserving of election, then he (or she) may list as many as he feels are deserving.

All legal ballots will be tabulated at the end of the voting each month. Candidates who are named on 75% or more of the ballots will be inducted into the Hall that month. If there are number of ballots submitted for which there is no whole number representing 75%, the closest number of ballots to 75% without going over will be considered worthy of induction (for example, in the April election, 11 ballots were submitted. 9 votes would represent 82%, and 8 would represent 73%, therefore 8 ballots were the minimum requirement for induction in that election).

The "official" Hall of Fame thread:

http://www.boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38875

Ballots can be submitted any time until May 25, 2006. All ballots become final at 12 midnight EST on the 25th. Feel free to revise and edit posted ballots until then.

Sorry Kid Lefty. Scratch YOUNG CORBETT III from my list and replace him with SALVADOR SANCHEZ. For some reason I thought Sanchez was already in.

That's fine seamus - everyone's encouraged to really consider their ballots and make whatever changes you want until May 25. I'm not going to count a single ballot until then (probably not even my own).

Anyone know how we can get the Round 2 thread "unstickied" and get this one stuck? I'm guessing a moderator would have to do it.

Leonard isn't eligible yet (10 year rule), and do you mean Barbados Joe or Jersey Joe?

Correct. What I see us doing eventually is amending the rule to also allow in anyone who's career began, say, 20 years ago or more. There would be a flood of new names on the ballots, which will be exciting. Right now I figure there's enough people worth voting for without that, so we should leave it as is for a while.

It's a little early. Give it a few more rounds and I'm sure he'll begin showing up on more ballots.

BTW, I just posted an announcement for this in the Current Scene forum. Hopefully that'll bring in some more ballots.

Actually, the ballot is 25 max. Someone has to be on 75% of the ballots to get in, so I don't see more than 7 or 8 at the very most making it this round.

I have no problem with people submitting shorter ballots if they really feel like no one else is worthy of induction, but excessively short ones are a little more suspect. I can't assume that a ballot with just two names is not an official entry. jcs, you're a little closer, but are you sure that those are the only fighters you think deserve induction?

I'd enforece the 25 rule strictly. I'll complement mine
